Can I encapsulate my crawlspace: Another success story
One of the most common things we hear from homeowners is, "I want to do my own crawlspace encapsulation but I don't know what I need or if I will have the time." We love helping people figure out which of our products will best fit their individual needs and available resources (labor). Recently, we helped a homeowner in Ohio who worked as a full time school teacher. She was hesitant when we first spoke about her ability to do the work. After some reassurance she ordered her kit and went to work. Success! Have a look at her comments below.
"As a teacher, on a teacher’s salary, I have long been a ‘fix it’ and ‘improve it’ on your own when possible, homeowner. My 40 year old home has a full basement under most of it, and a crawl under the family room. While never having water…it had the old builders grade piece of 6ml plastic, torn and never secured to the wall over pea gravel. It was musty and damp. I wanted to turn it into usable storage space.
After an extensive internet search/tutorial, I was really intrigued by the Your Crawlspace unique products and absolutely clear how to videos. I had some questions about some odd features in my crawl, and I was given a phone number to call HB. He answered all of my questions, working out a time to talk when I had a break from students! He gave installation advice, and changed my mind about what vapor barrier to use. I had my order within two days.
It took longer to empty the stuff out of the crawl than it did to turn it into usable space. A coat of paint on the walls, closed cell foam sprayed in the joists and the install of the wall curtain (BRILLANT idea!!!) and high tech drain mat took one weekend! I have since added plastic shelving around the perimeter and have LOADS of clean, dry storage!"
